Ready, Set, Wait
3January 5, 2014 by CJ
My sleep was disturbed this morning by an alarm I had set a few weeks ago:
Reminder: Begin training for Sole of city 10k @ Sun Jan 5, 2014 7am – 8am
Along with doing the Firm Express this month, I wanted to start training for a 10k. Let me explain a little, if you are new to my blog. I decided to challenge myself in 2014 and complete 12 thirty day challenges and for January my plan is to complete the Firm Express workout plan.
What I liked about the Firm Express plan is that is only required 30 minutes, 3 days a week. The schedule, they provide, says workouts should be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
This plan works perfectly to begin my challenge. AND it fit perfectly for me to begin training for a 10k. The plan I use to train requires running 3 days a week. I was going to run Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. All this sounds great to begin my fitness and health goal but then two things happened.
- Weather! I live on the east coast and just in case you don’t and don’t watch the weather channel, we’ve been hit with snow and freezing temperatures. I hate running on a treadmill. I don’t mind running in snow, but I hesitate to run on ice. When I got out of bed this morning, most of the sidewalks had been cleared, freezing rain was scheduled to come later in the day, sooo technically I should have begun my first day of training. This leads me to #2
- A Night Out – My office holds its holiday party after the holidays. we started this years ago because one of my co-workers is married to a UPS driver. Sometime early in December he mandatory overtime is implemented. Along with everyone else’s holiday plans, it just made life easier for all of us to have a wonderful dinner, at a place we wanted, in January. Last night we had that dinner and a few drinks. I’ll just say the thought of moving off my couch makes my head spin and stomach spin in the opposite direction.
I could get upset, made better choices last night, beat myself up, but it’s so not worth it. Allowing little setbacks to upset and frustrate are the things which cause ruin to a goal. Fortunately for me, I can shift my run days to Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Today, will be all about hydrating and relaxing.
How are you doing with your goals for 2014?
That is so great that you guys wait until January for your office party so your co-worker can be a part! And I’d call that kind of night, taking care of yourself in a good way. 🙂 Hydrating and relaxing IS an important part of any type of training program. :):) Good luck with your 10k!
Thanks! And I definitely needed it. Now to get to the running thing…
I am with you, I was sitting on the couch last night after a wonderful dinner thinking….crap, this is so not going the way I need it to be going! hahaha
